Potter Park Zoo Comprehensive Sustainability Planning and Green Team Facilitation 
Berghorn Group was contracted by the Potter Park Zoo to develop its first sustainability plan. This included the formation and training of a green team and facilitation of its planning process. A facility audit examining energy and water use, waste stream management, construction activities, chemical management, transportation fuels, and purchasing identified opportunities to improve existing operations. The primary drivers for this work were the recent change to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums accreditation standard which requires demonstrable sustainability planning efforts as well as deep interest of zoo leadership and staff to "green" zoo operations. As a result, it was important for plan recommendations to be closely-aligned with the zoo's mission and strategic goals. Capital and non-capital projects were identified that would ultimately reduce the zoo's operational costs.
